The Edexcel IGCSE in English Language is structured at EC around a final exam in non-fiction (2 hours 15 minutes, 60%) and two pieces of coursework (40%). The coursework pieces, namely an extended essay across poetry and short stories as well as a self-authored creative prose short story comprise the literary elements of the course.

An important part of the course is the Edexcel Anthology which supplies the ten texts for study in the non-fiction exam in Part 1. Meanwhile, Part 2 of the Anthology supplies a selection of poems and short stories which can be used for the extended essay for coursework. Your teacher will confirm which poems and short stories you will study for a particular theme. Finally, Part 3 supplies the 16 poems which are studied for comparison in the English Literature specification (a separate GCSE) which is also studied by many candidates at EC.

A digital copy of the Anthology is included below. Your teacher will supply you with a paper copy and/or photocopies in order to make your annotations and notes. Some teachers prefer to supply the paper copy later in the course to enable the transcription and improvement of existing annotations.
