Welcome to the French department!
In supporting the whole school aims we seek to:
1. Create an enjoyable and productive learning environment in which the pupils can enthuse about their language-learning experience.
2. Enable all pupils to maximise their potential and achieve the highest grade possible within their chosen foreign language.
3. Pass on our love and understanding of both the language and the culture of the foreign country.
4. Encourage our pupils to take part in visits and exchanges in the countries studied.
5. Recognise the special historical and cultural status of French in the Bailiwick.
6. Increase European awareness by promoting interest and a positive attitude towards our European neighbours.
7. Enable as many pupils as possible to acquire the increasingly important ‘life-skill’ of competence in a modern foreign language.

Courses
At KS3 in Years 7, 8 and 9 our aim is to introduce pupils to a wide range of language and grammar, which they can put to practical use both inside and outside of the classroom, developing listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. Pupils use Dynamo 1 in Y7, Dynamo 2 in Y8 and Edexcel GCSE Foundation/Higher in Y9 as their core text book, with additional work books and access to a wide range of web-based activities.
At KS4 pupils consolidate the foundation skills acquired at KS4 and follow the Edexcel GCSE French course. Pupils use Edexcel GCSE French, Studio Edexcel GCSE and Edexcel IGCSE as their core text books, with additional work and grammar books and, as in KS3, access to a wide range of web-based activities. All pupils will also have a weekly speaking practice session with the French Assistant.
