Music of India and Punjab

Covering two traditions:

  • Indian Classical Music
  • Bhangra

Classical Music:

This section focuses on North Indian or Hindustani classical music, as typified by performers such as Ravi Shankar.

Bhangra:

The term bhangra traditionally referred to a form of dancing from the Punjab region of India. During the 1970s, however, young people of Punjabi descent in the UK created a form of upbeat popular music and called it bhangra.
