Tips for studying for Music exams (all years)
All Music exams are based on listening (students will hear a CD and will respond to questions based on what they hear).
Listening, like any other musical skill is best practiced little & often.
You could use short music exercises to break up your longer academic sessions (this is appropriate for revising skills and songs).
Year 7 and 8 Music revision - see individual Y7 and 8 pages for information
Year 9 Music Revision:
Revise the following:
1. Notes of the Treble and Bass Clefs
2. Instruments of the Orchestra and modern day band instruments.
3. Revise notes within a chord and riffs. Think about when we initially completed 'Shape of you' work by Ed Sheeran. You may well be asked to fill in the blanks on music for that riff.
4. Revise rhythms from Year 7 and 8. These include crotchets, quavers, semi-quavers, dotted rhythms, minims and semibreves.
5. Go through all the work we completed on Dance Music through time (include tango work on that and Dance music from the 70s, 90s and present day). Remember to look up the instruments of Tango Music.
6. Revise Technological features that are present in modern dance music
7. Revise traits of Film Music
8. Revise traits of Minimalism (given as a recent homework)
9. Revise what 2 beats (2/4) 3 beats (3/4) and 4 beats (4/4) a bar looks like and 6/8. you will have to be able to listen to Music and identify the correct time signature as well as instruments you can hear.
10. Be able to say how you can vary (variation) music and make suitable changes
11. Make sure you can identify all the musical elements.
the written exam is 100% BUT if any student would like to play to the class and incorporate part practical exam, that will make the written exam 75% and the performance 25% of the final mark.
The practical exams will be week commencing 13th May! and infront of all the class. Remember, that's only if you WANT to do that.
Good luck! I will add more resources this week (reminders of powerpoints we have gone through this year - you can also even check your firefly tasks from me this year) - Mrs Laird
