Music Lessons

Y7 & Y8 have Music every week. Students will need to bring pencils and diaries to each lesson.

Those opting to take Y9 Music have 2 lessons per week. Students need to ensure that they bring files, stationery and instruments (as requested) for lessons.

Progress and Assessment

Each half-term every student will take on a set of tasks in Music.  These include practical independent work, work in small groups and a little theory study.  Students are provided with a range of levels of difficulty (1-5) from which they can select (with teacher support) an appropriate standard of challenge for their own work.

A Music Project is set for each year group and is undertaken by all students.  This involves research, listening and a practical component.

Grades and reports are sent in line with College reporting time frames. In this Box link you will find more details of the Key Stage 3 course and progress indicators used to assess subject and learning grades.

Practical Assessment Criteria

These criteria are used to assess module tasks each half term and are used alongside the performance bonuses below to assess solo performances.

Y7 & 8: Modular tasks each half-term. Solo performance in Trinity term.

Y9: Modular tasks each half-term. Performances each term.

Written work/theory Assessment Criteria

These criteria are used to assess class sheets, theory and notation work, research tasks (not projects), vocabulary  and students' response to feedback (corrections)

Year 9 Performance Criteria

Year 9 undertake performances each term.  The assessment criteria for these performances are based on the Music GCSE criteria.  This is to help students begin to think about what would constitute a suitable and successful performance at GCSE level.
