Science Exam: Wednesday 22nd May 2024 at 1.30pm
Your Science exam will be 1hr 30 long. It will have three equal sections on Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You do not have to learn the whole year's work. Please note the topics that you have to revise below.
Topics to Revise
You do not have to learn the whole year's work.
The parts of each topic that you have to revise are listed below.
Click on each topic to access revision resources. You only need the page the link takes you to - not any either side of it. More resources are available in each topic page.
The most useful sections/pages of Collins Connect/the Frog textbook are also shown.
Biology
- Plant and Animal Cell Structure 1.3/pages 12/13
- Cells, Tissues and Organs 1.7/page 20/21
- Names of the parts of the flower (only their names, not what they do) 1.9/page 24
- Differences between wind and insect pollinated flowers 1.9/page 25
- Human gametes and fertilisation 1.14/page 34/35 and 1.15/pages 36/37
- Role of the Placenta 1.17/page 40/41
- Food Groups (including roles of minerals) 2.2/pages 50/51 and 2.6/pages 58/59
- Digestive system 2.7 pages 60/61 and enzymes 2.11 pages 68/69
- Lung Structure 2.13/page 72/73
- Composition of Inhaled/exhaled air 3.12/page 108
Chemistry
- Hazard symbols (see the PowerPoint attached below)
- Bunsen burner
- Metals and non-metals 4.5/page 130 and 4.6/page 132
- Separating mixtures 3.7/pages 98/99, 3.9/pages 102/103, 3.10/pages 104/105, 3.13/pages 110/111 and 3.14/pages 112/113 and solvents pages 114/115
- Elements, mixtures and compounds 4.4/pages 128/129 , 4.11/pages 142/143, 4.12/pages144/145
- Conservation of mass during a chemical reaction 4.18/page 157
You will also be expected to draw a graph so you need to revise graph skills and make sure that you have the correct equipment in the exam.
Physics (Including BBC Bitesize links)
- Drawing and naming forces 5.1/pages 162/163
- Understanding Gravity 5.2/page 164
- Describing what forces do to an object 5.5/pages 170/171
- Balanced and unbalanced forces 5.13/pages 186/187 and 5.16/pages 192/193
- Calculating speed of an object 5.15/pages 190/191
- Naming and understanding types of energy 6.1/page 203
- Energy transfers 6.2/pages 204/205 and 6.3/pages 206/207
- Describing sound 6.11/pages 222/223 and 6.12/pages 224/225
- Speed of sound in different materials 6.13/pages 226 and 6.14/pages 228/229
- Interpreting graphical information
In addition to these topics, make sure you are confident drawing a graph. You also need to understand 'How Science Works' terminology that you have learned about (understand how we can make experiments reliable, accurate and fair).
Century nuggets
In addition to the BBC Bitesize links and revision questions you can use Century to find specific nuggets for each topic. To find a nugget you need to load the correct course (Science - KS3 Biology or Science - KS3 Chemistry or Science - KS3 Physics) then put a key word in the search bar (eg neutralisation - which will then list the nuggets that match that word).
