Chemistry - Separate Sciences

Your Chemistry prelim will be on Friday 8th December (am).

The paper will be 1 hr 45 minutes long.

Your Prelim will be based on a Paper 2 exam. Paper 2 usually contains all of chapters 1 - 4 which can appear on either paper, and also chapters 8 - 15. However we haven't studied all of those yet, so you should expect to see Chapter 6, Electrolysis as well.

The topics which may come up in the prelim are shown below:

Chapter 1 - Fundamentals of Chemistry - yes

Chapter 2 - Periodic Table - yes

Chapter 3 - Structure and Bonding - yes (please don't expect this to represent as many marks in Paper 2 as it did in Paper 1, however the detail and understanding needed will still be very high).

Chapter 4 - Calculations in Chemistry - yes

Chapter 5 - no

Chapter 6 - Electrolysis - yes

Chapter 7 - Energy changes - no

Chapter 8 - Rates of Reaction and Reversible Reactions - yes

Chapter 9 - Crude oils and fuels - yes

Chapter 10 - Organic Reactions - no

Chapter 11 - Polymers - no

Chapter 12 - Analysis - some parts, 12.1, 12.2, 12.3

Chapter 13 - Atmosphere - yes

Chapter 14 - Earth's Resources (including water) - no

Chapter 15 - Using our Resources - no
